Have any of you run into the issue of trying to find some sort of fitness routine that really works for you? I started and stopped so many different routines and cancelled so gym memberships, all for the same reason – they couldn’t keep my attention. Even alternating between leg day and arm day didn’t work for me. Yoga interested me, but I never wanted to start because I thought it would be the same exact routine all the time based on the classes I took. I finally decided to take the plunge into giving yoga a try when my anxiety became so bad due to my hyper-focus. I did not have high hopes about enjoying it.
After searching for a bit, I found a yoga instructor on YouTube that resonated with me. The best part was there were tons of different videos with different styles of yoga. Not to mention various choices in length and level. There were even classes that ran over a period of days, but each day was slightly or completely different. Even better, I actually found styles of yoga that I really love to do (Vinyasa and Yin). Needless to say, I was thrilled that I finally found something that worked for me.
Fast forward to a year later, my anxiety is manageable, with fewer panic attacks or hyper-focus episodes that take over hours of my day. Currently, I am doing yoga twice a day. There have been a number of physical benefits I have noticed, as well as mental benefits. Finding something that combines both is great. I also am able to turn inward and quiet my mind, which is a huge feat considering the amount of background noise that can be in my head. I never thought I would stick with a fitness routine and become a person who feels like something is missing when they don’t do yoga that day, but here I am.
